14 years ago, I was nominated for the ARJE Board by Saul Kaiserman, my then-supervisor at Congregation Emanu-El of the City of New York Honored and excited, but with very little understanding of what lay ahead, I said yes. I had no idea at the time how rewarding the next years would be. I learned skills in finance, development, and governance that not only helped me be a leader in the ARJE but were valuable tools to bring back to my role in my congregation. I built incredible relationships, learning from people all around me. I was constantly reflecting and growing, learning to be a better leader and educator. I experienced joy, mentorship, challenges, and more.
Some of our ARJE leaders are here because they said “yes” when somebody tapped them on the shoulder and asked them to get involved.Other members wanted to give back and knew they had skills, time, or desire to be a part of the leadership of ARJE, to make a significant contribution, and to volunteer in a place that recognizes their skills, talents and affirms they “matter”.

Participants will connect with current leaders and learn about their varied paths to leadership. They will learn about the ARJE budget and volunteer leadership structure. They’ll expand their ability to lead meetings, bring an idea to life, and hold people accountable. Participants will reflect on their strengths as a leader and spend time with colleagues who will notice their skills and encourage their advancement.
Nominate someone (or yourself) today! Once someone is nominated, they will be invited to fill out a leadership boot camp application. Applications are due by October 15 and will be accepted on a rolling basis. If you need an additional night in the hotel in order to attend, subsidies are available.
