About Speaker
Dr. Noah Hichenberg is a preschool director and former classroom teacher in Washington, DC, and an adjunct professor at the American Jewish University's School of Educational Leadership. Noah is also the early childhood faculty member at the New Directors' Institute, in which he helps sculpt the next generation of Jewish preschool directors.
He received his Ed.D. from Teachers College, Columbia University, in curriculum and teaching with a focus in early childhood. Noah recently came out with his first book, A New Vision for Early Childhood, in which he presents his case for re-orientating adult relationships with children away from control and towards trust.
Noah uses his unique dissertation research, in which he conducted a yearlong ethnography of one two-year-old child, along with a critical history of early childhood to argue that we diminish children's capacity to matter and to contribute by limiting their exposure to the world in the name of developmentally appropriate practices. Noah lives with his wife and four young children in Bethesda, MD.
